Life at IIM Bangalore

A 100-acre oasis in south Bangalore, the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), with its all-stone architecture, lush verdant woods and landscaped gardens, provides an idyllic environment to engage in management studies, academics and learning. IIMB has world-class infrastructure that facilitates excellence in teaching, research, consulting and other professional activities.

Each day brings its own new set of experiences and whether you’re a night owl or an early bird, there’s never anything routine about it!

Hot spots on campus

  • L Square – the quadrangle between the hostel. Parties, events and even basketball matches are hosted here.
  • The best time is early mornings. A walk in the woods is a refreshing way to clear up your mind. The serene streets are well-lit throughout and a Chai is your best companion during your night-walks.
  • There are over 15 benches inside the campus, away from the crowd. These are the best places to sit down and relax. Watch the birds, flowers, trees, orange night sky, and the occasional stars.
  • A mess to watch television, some cafes and the EPGP lounge with meeting rooms.

IIMB offers opportunities to interact with and learn from accomplished people. Business leaders, representatives of government and non-government organizations, artists and intellectuals regularly visit our campus on invitation to deliver talks and presentations that provide insights to the careers and personal attributes of these role-models.

Clubs and Committees

There are more than 30 clubs and committees on campus each related to different areas. They conduct their own selection process for selecting Junior Coordinators from first-year students. Each club conducts many workshops, events, debates, competitions, etc.

Some clubs from IIMB collide with clubs from other IIMs to conduct a common competition. It creates a competitive spirit and we get to know people from different campuses and how things work differently from our campus. Students in the first year are advised to apply for clubs of their interest.

Library and Classrooms

Infrastructure in the campus is par with the world-class institute. Classes have projectors and a good quality sound system. The structure of classes is such that each student is visible to the professor.

Spacious and extremely well stocked the library is regularly updated with the latest journals and newsletters. It also provides access to online databases like Bloomberg. Its services are subscribed to by working professionals too. The library is full of books, journals, research papers, publications, etc.

Computing Facilities

IIMB is the only fully Wi-Fi enabled campus amongst comparable institutes. The Computer Centre is available for use 24 hours. Printer facility is provided in the computer centre as well as in the hostel blocks. High speed Internet, highly resourceful intranet, sharing software, and internal messenger make all work easier and quicker.

Hostels

The spacious, beautiful and well maintained hostel blocks provide single room accommodation to all students. Each room is equipped with a bed and mattress, a table, a chair, a whiteboard with a clipboard, an almirah, tube lights, fans and shelves to keep books. Bathrooms are common with a washing machine facility.

There are 2 kinds of blocks. Old blocks and new blocks. Old blocks don’t have a balcony attached to the room. Also, the old block rooms are smaller in size. But the true hostel feels come in old hostel blocks.

Sports complex

The sports infrastructure at the campus is impressive. Be it Yoga, Zumba, swimming, or Badminton, the sports complex is only a stone’s throw away. If you’re someone who hasn’t played a sport/game in years, these amazing facilities should help you get some physical activity. This includes facilities for soccer, cricket, tennis, basket ball, volley ball, throw ball, badminton, indoor games etc. These facilities have had a role to play in the institute having a strong sporting culture.

Life Outside the Campus

Bangalore, arguably Asia’s fastest growing cosmopolitan city, is described as one of India’s best places to live in. Many Student spend most of the time inside the campus only. Nevertheless, there are 2 malls within a radius of 3 kilometers. You can go there for movies or shopping. There are many good restaurants in nearby JP Nagar and Koramangala area.

So Finally

The Institute provides a range of opportunities outside the classroom as well – be it industry interaction, cultural activities, sports competitions or entrepreneurial pursuits. With three major fests being organised every year, the campus becomes more lively and a happening place full of energy and euphoria.
