World Literacy Day, celebrated every year on September 8th, reminds us of the crucial role that literacy plays in building prosperous and peaceful societies. Established by UNESCO in 1966, its goal is to promote literacy as a human right and a foundation for lifelong learning.
Globally, millions of people still lack basic reading and writing skills. World Literacy Day advocates for access to quality education, digital learning opportunities, and community outreach to bridge this gap. By ensuring everyone can read and write, we unlock the potential for individual growth, economic development, and stronger democracies.
The theme for World Literacy Day 2025 centers on ‘Literacy for evolving societies’, highlighting the importance of adapting education to changing technologies and cultures. Communities, governments, and educators unite to celebrate the progress so far and strive to eliminate illiteracy worldwide.
On this day, let’s renew our commitment toward inclusive education and empower every individual with the ability to read, write, and think freely.

ప్రపంచ అక్షరాస్యత దినోత్సవం: విద్య కు మ్రుద్యాయి సాధనం
ప్రతి సంవత్సరం సెప్టెంబర్ 8న జరుపుకునే ప్రపంచ అక్షరాస్యత దినోత్సవం అనేది చదవడం, వ్రాయడం వంటి ప్రాథమిక కలిగివుండడం సమాజ అభివృద్ధికి ఎంత అవసరమో గుర్తుచేస్తుంది. 1966లో యునెస్కో అందించదిన ఈ ప్రత్యేక దినం, విద్యను మానవ హక్కుగా ప్రోత్సహించడమే లక్ష్యంగా రూపొందించబడింది.
ఇప్పటికీ ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా కోట్ల మంది ప్రాథమిక చదువు అక్షర జ్ఞానం లేకుండానే జీవిస్తున్నారు. ప్రపంచ సంపూర్ణాహిత్య దినోత్సవం ఉత్తమ విద్య, డిజిటల్ నేర్చుకోవడం, సంఘ పాలనతో అక్షరాస్యతను అందించేందుకు ప్రయత్నిస్తుంది. చదవడం, వ్రాయడం సామర్థ్యాన్ని అందరికీ పంచితే వ్యక్తిగత పురోగతి, ఆర్థిక అభివృద్ధి, ప్రబల ప్రజాస్వామ్యాలు సాధ్యమవుతాయి.
2025 సంవత్సరం ప్రపంచ అక్షరాస్యత దినోత్సవం “మారుతున్న సమాజానికి అక్షరాస్యత” అనే నేపథ్యాన్ని లాంఛనంగా తీసుకుంది. మారుతున్న సాంకేతికత, సంస్కృతి కోణాలకు అనుగుణంగా విద్యను అందించాలనే ఉద్దేశంతో ఈ దినాన్ని జరుపుకుంటాము.
ఈ రోజు మనం అందరికీ చదువు, వ్రాయటం నేర్పించడానికి నిశ్చయించుకుని వారిని స్వేచ్ఛగా ఆలోచించడానికి, దేశ అభివృద్ధికి తోడ్పడేలా ప్రోత్సహించాలి.
