Lunar Eclipse or Blood Moon
A Lunar Eclipse, popularly known as the Blood Moon, occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon. During this phenomenon, the Moon often appears red or copper-colored, which gives it the dramatic name “Blood Moon.”
Scientific Explanation
The reddish color happens because Earth’s atmosphere scatters sunlight. The shorter blue wavelengths are filtered out, while the longer red wavelengths bend toward the Moon, making it glow in shades of red or orange.
Types of Lunar Eclipses
There are three major types of lunar eclipses. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely passes into Earth’s umbra, turning bright red. A partial lunar eclipse happens when only a portion of the Moon enters Earth’s shadow. A penumbral lunar eclipse takes place when the Moon moves through Earth’s outer shadow, causing a subtle dimming that is not very noticeable to the naked eye.
Cultural and Spiritual Significance
Across different cultures, lunar eclipses are seen as powerful cosmic events. Some traditions consider them times of meditation, prayer, or avoiding major activities, while others view them as symbols of change, transformation, and renewal.

The longest total lunar eclipse visible from India since 2022 will occur on the intervening night of September 7 and 8, 2025. Astronomers have noted that this is the first time since July 27, 2018, that an entire total lunar eclipse will be observable from all parts of the country.

చంద్ర గ్రహణాలు మూడు రకాలుగా ఉంటాయి. సంపూర్ణ చంద్ర గ్రహణం లో చంద్రుడు పూర్తిగా భూమి నీడలోకి ప్రవేశించి ఎరుపు రంగులోకి మారిపోతాడు. ఆంశిక చంద్ర గ్రహణం లో చంద్రుడి ఒక భాగం మాత్రమే భూమి నీడలోకి ప్రవేశిస్తుంది. పెనుంబ్రల్ చంద్ర గ్రహణం లో చంద్రుడు భూమి వెలుపలి నీడలోకి ప్రవేశించి స్వల్ప కాంతి తగ్గుదల కనిపిస్తుంది.
