Ananta Chaturdashi
Ananta Chaturdashi is a sacred Hindu festival celebrated on the 14th day of the bright fortnight in the Bhadrapada month (August–September). It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, worshipped in his infinite form as “Ananta,” the eternal one. This day also marks the grand conclusion of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, when devotees immerse Lord Ganesha idols in water, bidding farewell to the beloved deity.
The festival stands for faith, devotion, and overcoming obstacles. Devotees observe a fast and tie a sacred thread called “Ananta Sutra,” usually made with 14 knots, while praying for protection, prosperity, and well-being of their families.

According to ancient scriptures, Sushila, a devout woman, performed the Ananta Vrata faithfully. Her husband, Kaundinya, suffered hardships after dishonoring the sacred thread, but regained prosperity after repenting and observing the vow for 14 years. The tradition of tying the knot-thread symbolizes seeking Lord Vishnu’s infinite blessings.
Ananta Chaturdashi unites devotion to Lord Vishnu with the emotional farewell to Lord Ganesha and inspires devotees to remain steadfast in truth and righteousness, seeking endless blessings and happiness.
