Donald Trump is an American businessman, television personality, and politician who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021. Before his political career, he was known for his real estate developments, his role as the host of the reality TV show The Apprentice, and his brand as a businessman.

Early Life and Business Career:

Trump was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York City, to a wealthy family. His father, Fred Trump, was a successful real estate developer. Donald Trump joined his father’s business, eventually taking control in the 1970s. He expanded the company and rebranded it as the Trump Organization, building iconic properties like Trump Tower in Manhattan and acquiring hotels, casinos, and golf courses around the world.

Political Career:

Trump initially ran for president in 2016 as the Republican candidate, shocking many by securing the nomination. His campaign was marked by populist rhetoric, promises to “Make America Great Again,” and a focus on issues like immigration, trade, and job creation. Despite being seen as a political outsider with no prior experience in elected office, he won the election, defeating Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in a surprise victory.

As president, Trump’s policies included tax cuts, deregulation, a hardline stance on immigration, and withdrawal from various international agreements like the Paris Climate Accord. His administration was controversial for its approach to foreign policy, his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, and his confrontational style toward the media, Democrats, and even some members of his own party.

2020 Election and Aftermath:

Trump ran for re-election in 2020 against Democratic candidate Joe Biden. He lost the election, but refused to concede, claiming widespread voter fraud without providing substantial evidence. This led to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, when a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to prevent the certification of Biden’s victory. Trump was impeached twice by the House of Representatives—once in 2019 over allegations of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress (related to his dealings with Ukraine) and again in 2021 for incitement of insurrection (following the Capitol riot). He was acquitted both times by the Senate.

Post-Presidency:

After leaving office, Trump remained a dominant figure in Republican politics. He continued to influence the party and tease another presidential run in 2024, while facing several legal investigations related to his business practices, his role in the January 6 insurrection, and his handling of classified documents.

Trump is a polarizing figure, admired by his supporters for his unconventional approach, strong stance on American nationalism, and promises to upend the political establishment, but criticized by his detractors for his divisive rhetoric, handling of crises, and policies that many saw as harmful or regressive.

2024 Elections and Aftermath:

The 2024 U.S. elections will be held on November 5, 2024. The presidential race will see incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, running as the Democratic candidate, and former President Donald Trump, who is seeking a return to office after his 2020 loss. Other candidates may also run, either from minor parties or as independents.

The election will determine the next president and vice president, as well as all 435 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, 34 seats in the U.S. Senate, and numerous state and local offices.

Key issues expected to dominate the 2024 election include the economy, healthcare, climate change, foreign policy, immigration, and the ongoing debate over voting rights and election security.

The U.S. approached a historic Election Day on Tuesday (November 5, 2024), with U.S Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump making their final cases to voters across battleground states, especially Pennsylvania, in a election that is tight and where both candidates have a shot at winning.

On 06-11-2024, Donald Trump became the president of United States of America defeating Kamala Harris with 295 to 226 electoral college votes as swing states Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin went Trumps’ favour.

US President-elect Donald Trump, on Sunday, won in Arizona, securing the final battleground state and pushing his total electoral vote tally to 312, well above his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, who garnered 226 votes. This victory, following a prolonged vote-counting process, marks Trump’s sweep of all key swing states, including Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Nevada, and Wisconsin, shattering the so-called ‘blue wall’.

During his campaign, Trump focused heavily on issues like border security, immigration, and crime linked to illegal immigration, topics that resonated deeply in Arizona amid a record migrant influx. His proposals included mass deportations, hiring an additional 10,000 border agents, and reallocating military funds to support border enforcement.

In addition to his presidential victory, Trump’s success in the battleground states is part of a broader Republican resurgence. The GOP has regained control of the Senate, with 52 seats, compared to 47 for the Democrats. In the House, Republicans have secured 216 seats, just two shy of the majority, and are expected to secure full control in the coming days. This marks a remarkable comeback for Trump, four years after his loss in the 2020 election.

The 78-year-old Republican leader also led Harris by around 5 million votes in the popular vote. “America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump declared to a jubilant crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida .

Trump’s political journey had seemed in jeopardy after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, which was fueled by his baseless claims of election fraud. However, his return to power marks a significant political comeback.

Trump, who has made no secret of his intention to overhaul the executive branch, has vowed to remove civil servants he deems disloyal and to use federal agencies to investigate his political opponents – policies that have drawn concerns over the independence of such institutions.

Once the 2024 election results are certified by Congress on January 6, 2025, Trump will be sworn in alongside his vice-presidential pick, US Senator JD Vance, on Inauguration Day, January 20. Throughout his campaign, Trump emphasized loyalty in selecting his administration, offering key positions to high-profile supporters like Elon Musk and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
