First Day of Navarathri
The first day of Navarathri, known as Pratipada, marks the beginning of a spiritually charged nine-night celebration devoted to Goddess Durga and her various forms. On this day, devotees worship Maa Shailputri, the daughter of the Himalayas, who embodies purity, prosperity, and a fresh start. She symbolizes Mother Nature and is associated with the Muladhara (Root) Chakra—awakening the spiritual journey of the devotee.
Festival Significance
Maa Shailputri, as the first of Durga’s nine forms, rules over the Moon and brings good fortune. Worshippers seek her blessings for strength, stability, and spiritual awakening. Her legend states that after Sati immolated herself, she was reborn as Shailputri, the daughter of Lord Himalaya, destined to marry Lord Shiva.
Rituals and Customs
Devotees begin celebrations with Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana)—installing a sacred pot containing water, grains, and a coconut at a sanctified spot in the home. They light a lamp and offer incense, flowers, fruits, and sweets. Reciting special mantras and performing panchopchara puja with five auspicious items invites the blessings of Maa Shailputri.
The auspicious color for Day 1 is white, signifying purity and serenity. Wearing white is recommended to bring calm and divine blessings. Special bhog of desi ghee is also offered.
నవరాత్రి మొదటి రోజు
నవరాత్రి ప్రసిద్ధికైన తొమ్మిది రాత్రుల పండుగ ప్రయాణాన్ని ప్రారంభించే ముఖ్యమైన రోజు ప్రతిపద. ఈ రోజున భక్తులు మా శైలపుత్రి (హిమాలయ కుమార్తె)ను పూజిస్తారు. ఆమె పావిత్రత, శ్రేయస్సు మరియు కొత్త ఆరంభానికి ప్రతీకగా నిలుస్తుంది. ప్రకృతి దేవతగా శైలపుత్రి ములాధార చక్రాన్ని (రూట్ చక్ర) ఉత్తేజింపజేస్తుంది, ఇది ఆధ్యాత్మిక ప్రయాణాన్ని ప్రారంభిస్తుంది.
పండుగ ప్రాధాన్యత
మా శైలపుత్రి దుర్గ మాత యొక్క తొమ్మిది రూపాల్లో మొదటిది, చంద్రునిపై అధిపత్యం ఉంది. భక్తులు ఆమె ఆశీస్సులు కోరుతారు, దీనివల్ల స్థిరత, ఆధ్యాత్మిక సంబంధం కలుగుతుంది. సతీ మూయ్యాన్ని తిప్పబడి, ఆమె హిమాలయ కుమార్తెగా పునర్జన్మ పొందినదే దీనివెనుక కథ.
పూజా విధానం
ఈ రోజు, భక్తులు ఘటస్థాపన (కలశ స్థాపన)తో నవరాత్రిని ప్రారంభిస్తారు. కలశంలో గంగాజలం, ధన్యాలు, రంగు రైస్, నారికెల ముందుగా మధ్యలో ఉంచి, దీపం వెలిగించి, పువ్వులు, పండ్లు, మిఠాయిలు సమర్పిస్తారు. ప్రత్యేకమైన మంత్రములు, పంచోపచార పూజ చేస్తారు.
నవరాత్రి మొదటి రోజు రంగు తెలుపు— ఇది పావిత్రతకూ సంతృప్తికీ సూచకం. తెలుపు వస్త్రాలను ధరించడం ముగ్దుల అందాన్ని తీసుకురాగలదని విశ్వాసం. ప్రత్యేకంగా మాత నాకు నైవిద్యం ఘీ సమర్పించాలి.
