How to do it:
Leftover rice, rice-washed water, and vegetable scraps at home can all be used as fertilizer for terrace garden plants, according to experts.

To make organic fertilizer at home, you need small tools. Take two 20-liter buckets, or a 10-inch plastic pipe, or a 50-liter water drum. One bucket should have a tap fixed at the bottom. The second bucket should have holes all around. Place the bucket with holes over the bucket with a tap.

For the 10-inch pipe, make holes all around, cover with a lid, and bury it in the ground or place it in a soil-filled bucket. For a 50-liter drum, fix a tap, drill holes at the bottom and sides, and place a lid on top with soil. Attach rollers to rotate it easily.

Using household waste:
Experts suggest that vegetable and leafy waste should be placed into these prepared setups. Cover with dry leaves and soil. Add rice-washed water and sour buttermilk daily. The bacteria present in them decompose the waste into compost. Vegetable waste can also be added every day.

If you are using a roller drum, rotate it daily so the waste mixes well. Soon, organic fertilizer will be ready. The liquid that comes out of this is also beneficial for plants.

Along with organic fertilizer, vermicompost (earthworm fertilizer) can also be used. Earthworms are available for sale in vermicompost plants. Once bought, they can be reused continuously to make fertilizer.

Instead of throwing vegetable waste in the garbage bin, you can use it to prepare organic fertilizer at home. Once vermicompost is ready, apply it to plants and reuse the earthworms for the next batch. This way, fertilizer production can continue endlessly, experts say.
