“Give me your blood, and I shall give you freedom”—the quote by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose inspired thousands of Indian youths to join the struggle for independence from the British colonial rule. A pivotal figure in India’s freedom movement, Netaji is considered by many as one of the greatest leaders ever born.
To commemorate his contribution to India’s struggle for independence, every year on 23rd January, Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday is celebrated across various parts of the country. In 2023, Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti falls on Monday. It will mark his 126th birth anniversary.
Born in Cuttack, Odisha, Subhas Chandra Bose was born in a well-off family. A brilliant student, Netaji ranked second in the matriculation examination and fourth in the Indian Civil Services (ICS) examination. He quit his high-paying ICS job and came back to India from England in 1921 to join India’s struggle for independence. Initially a member of INC (Indian National Congress), Netaji opined that to earn freedom, it’s necessary to wage war against the British.
He formed the Azad Hind Fauj, a military regiment designed to counter the British. With socialist beliefs and thoughts, Netaji inspired millions of youths to join the struggle for independence.
‘నాకు రక్తాన్ని ఇవ్వండి ..నేను మీకు స్వాతంత్య్రాన్ని ఇస్తాను’ అంటూ స్వాతంత్రం కొసం పోరాడిన భారతదేశ కీర్తి కిరీటం… మరణం లేని అమరుడు.. భారత్కు ఆయుధాలతో పోరాడటం తెలుసని ప్రపంచానికి చాటిచెప్పిన మహోన్నతుడు.. స్వాతంత్ర పోరాటం అహింసా మార్గంలోనే కాదు వీర మార్గంలోనూ బ్రిటర్లపై పోరాడుదామని పిలుపిచ్చిన మహావీరుడు.. సాయుధ పోరాటం ద్వారా ఆంగ్లేయులను దేశం నుంచి తరిమి కొట్టవచ్చునని నమ్మి, అది ఆచరణలో పెట్టిన యోధుడు సుభాష్ చంద్రబోస్.
రెండుసార్లు భారత జాతీయ కాంగ్రెస్కు అధ్యక్షుడిగా ఎన్నికైనా గాంధీజీతో సిద్ధాంతపరంగా విభేదించి ఆ పదవికి రాజీనామా చేశారు. గాంధీజీ ఆచరించిన అహింసావాదం మాత్రమే స్వాతంత్ర్య సాధనకు సరిపోదని, పోరుబాట కూడా ముఖ్యమని బోస్ బలంగా నమ్మారు. ఈ అభిప్రాయంతోనే ఆల్ ఇండియా ఫార్వార్డ్ బ్లాక్ అనే రాజకీయ పార్టీని కూడా స్థాపించారు.
ఆజాద్ హిందూ ఫౌజ్ను స్థాపించి దేశానికి స్వాతంత్ర్యం తీసుకురావడంలో కీలకపాత్ర వహించారు. అయితే నేతాజీ మరణం వెనుక ఉన్న మిస్టరీ ఇంకా వీడలేదు.1945, ఆగస్టు 22న నేతాజీ ప్రయాణించిన యుద్ద విమానం ప్రమాదానికి గురై ఆయన వీరమరణం పొందినట్లు జపాన్ రేడియో ప్రకటించింది. అయితే ఈ ప్రకటనపై భిన్న వాదనలు వినిపిస్తున్నాయి. కేంద్రప్రభుత్వం నేతాజీకి సంబంధి వంద సీక్రెట్ ఫైళ్లను విడుదల చేసినప్పటికీ ఆయన మరణం వెనుక కారణాలు ఇప్పటికీ ప్రపంచానికి ఓ మిస్టరీలానే మిగిలిపోయింది. అయితే, బోస్ జయంతిని ప్రతి ఏడాది నుంచి పరాక్రమ్ దివస్గా జరపాలని భారత ప్రభుత్వం నిర్ణయించింది.
