Introduction
World Bamboo Day is celebrated every year on September 18 to raise global awareness about the ecological, economic, and cultural importance of bamboo. Initiated by the World Bamboo Organization in 2009 during the 8th World Bamboo Congress in Bangkok, the day encourages everyone to recognize bamboo’s role in sustainable development, poverty reduction, and climate change.
Why Bamboo Is Called “Green Gold”
Bamboo grows rapidly, restores soil health, and acts as a vital carbon sink, making it a sustainable alternative to timber, plastic, and steel. Known as “green gold”, it supports rural livelihoods, provides jobs to millions, and is rooted in tradition, innovation, and community welfare. India, especially states like Assam and Madhya Pradesh, leverages bamboo to boost rural income and protect nature through the National Bamboo Mission.

ప్రపంచ బాంబూ దినోత్సవం – “హరిత బంగారం” స్థిరమైన భవిష్యత్తుకు
ప్రతి సంవత్సరం సెప్టెంబర్ 18న ప్రపంచ బాంబూ దినోత్సవం జరుపుకుంటారు. ఈ రోజు 2009లో బ్యాంకాక్లో జరిగిన 8వ వరల్డ్ బాంబూ కాంగ్రెస్లో వరల్డ్ బాంబూ ఆర్గనైజేషన్ ప్రారంభించింది. బాంబూ పర్యావరణానికి, ఆర్థికానికి, సంస్కృతికి ఎంత ముఖ్యమో తెలియజెప్పేందుకు ఈ దినోత్సవాన్ని పాటిస్తున్నారు.
బాంబూను “హరిత బంగారం” (Green Gold) అంటారు. ఇది వేగంగా పెరుగుతుంది, నేల ఆరోగ్యాన్ని మెరుగుపరుస్తుంది, పాతాళ నీటిని నిలుపుతుంది, కార్బన్ ని తగ్గిస్తుంది. గ్రామీణ అభివృద్ధికి, ఉపాధి అవకాశాలకు, సంప్రదాయాలకు బాంబూ కీలకం. భారతదేశంలో ప్రతిసారి పెద్ద అర్థాన్ని కలిగి ఉంటుంది, ప్రాక్షాన్, అస్సాం వంటి రాష్ట్రాలు నేషనల్ బాంబూ మిషన్ ద్వారా లభ్యమైన అవకాశాలను ఉపయోగించుకుంటున్నాయి.
బాంబూ దినోత్సవాన్ని పురస్కరించుకుని భారతదేశంలో, ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా, నాట్లు, సెమినార్లు, ప్రదర్శనలు, సంప్రదాయ సంబరాలు నిర్వహిస్తారు. బాంబూ రైతులు, కూనుగులు, డిజైనర్లు, ప్రభుత్వాలు ఐక్యంగా పని చేస్తారు – ఇది స్థిరమైన భవిష్యత్తుకు మార్గదర్శకం.
