Muharram is celebrated as New Year’s Day among the Muslim community across the globe. However, the Shias mourn on this day while Sunnis observe fasting for the entire day.
Significance Of The Festival
The Shia Muslim community mourns the demise of Hussain Ibn Ali, the son of Ali and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad from the Karbala battle. Karbala is a famous destination of pilgrimage in Iraq. Hussain Ibn Ali was killed in Karbala in 680 AD. Till the end, he fought the army of Yazid I and was finally killed in the battle. The 10th day of Muharram, the Day of Ashura, is an occasion to remember the brave sacrifice of Hussain. The Day of Ashura is also important to Muslims because it is reported that on this day Moses and his followers obtained victory over the Egyptian Pharaoh.
How Is Muharram Celebrated?
Muharram is considered to be the period of recalling and mourning the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain by the community of Shia Muslims, which starts mourning from the first night of Muharram and will continue for the next 2 months and 8 days. A greater amount of importance is placed on the first ten days of the festival. The community wears black clothes on the opening day of Muharram and submits prayers. Black color denotes the color of grieving. On the tenth day, Shia Muslims take out processions via streets. They walk barefoot on the roads. They sing and suppurate loudly as an act of mourning for Hussain. The same celebration is observed during the Muharram holiday.
మొహర్రం
ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఉండే ముస్లింలందరూ రంజాన్, బక్రీద్ తర్వాత జరుపుకునే ముఖ్యమైన పండుగల్లో మొహర్రం(పీర్ల పండుగ) ఒకటి. ఈ పవిత్రమైన పండుగను తెలుగు రాష్ట్రాల్లో పది రోజుల పాటు జరుపుకుంటారు. ఈ సమయంలో ఇస్లాం మతంలోని ప్రవచనాలు, మహ్మద్ ప్రవక్త బోధనలను వివరిస్తారు. మొహర్రం మాసంలో పదో రోజున పీర్ల దేవుళ్లను ఊరేగిస్తారు. అంతకుముందు రాత్రి అగ్ని గుండంలో దూకడం, అగ్గిలో నడవటం వంటివి చేస్తారు. హజరత్ ఇమాం హుసేన్ ను స్మరించుకుంటూ పంజా(పీర్ల దేవుళ్ల ప్రతిమ)లను ఊరేగించి తమ సంతాపం ప్రకటిస్తారు. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో 2023 సంవత్సరంలో జూలై మాసంలో 29వ తేదీన శనివారం రోజున మొహరం వేడుకలను జరుపుకోనున్నారు. కొన్ని ప్రాంతాల్లో కొందరు ముస్లింలు తమ రక్తంతో శోక తప్త హృదయాలతో తమ వీరులను స్మరించుకుంటారు. మహ్మద్ ప్రవక్త అధర్మాన్ని, అన్యాయాన్ని వ్యతిరేకించి ధర్మం కోసం ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ పాటుపడాలని, ప్రజలందరూ సుఖ సంతోషాలతో ప్రశాంతంగా జీవనం కొనసాగించాలని ఆకాంక్షించారు.
వాస్తవానికి మొహర్రం అనేది పండుగ కాదు. ఇస్లామిక్ క్యాలెండర్ ప్రకారం మొదటి మాసాన్ని మొహర్రంగా పిలుస్తారు. అయితే ఈ నెలలో పదో రోజును అత్యంత పవిత్రమైనదిగా భావిస్తారు. ఈరోజున అమరవీరులను స్మరించుకునే దినోత్సవంగా భావిస్తారు. అయితే ప్రాచీన కాలంలో అషూరా రోజున మొహర్రం మాసంలో పదో రోజున అనేక సంప్రదాయాలను అనుసరించి పండుగగా జరుపుకునేవారు.
మొహర్రం మాసంలో మొదటి రోజున ఇరాక్ లోని కర్బలా మైదానంలో యుద్ధం ప్రారంభమైంది. యజీద్ సైన్యం హుసేన్ తో పాటు కుటుంబసభ్యులను, మహిళలను, పసిపిల్లల్ని సైతం దారుణంగా హతమార్చారు. మొహర్రం నెల పదో రోజున సాయంత్రం అల్లా్హ్ ను స్మరించుకుంటూ నమాజ్ చేస్తున్న ఇమాం హుసేన్ ను శత్రు సైన్యం చుట్టుముట్టారు. అప్పుడు శత్రువుల చేతిలో దాదాపు 70 మంది వరకు మహ్మద్ ప్రవక్త వంశానికి చెందిన వారు అమరులుగా మారిపోయారు. ఈ సమయంలో హజరత్ హుసేన్ ఆ తెగకు శాపం పెడతారు. ఈ తెగకు ఎప్పటికీ మోక్షం ఇవ్వొద్దని ప్రార్థిస్తూ ప్రాణాలు వదిలేస్తాడు. యుద్ధం పూర్తయిన తర్వాత యాజిద్ తెగ వారు పశ్చాత్తాపం చెందుతారు. అప్పటినుంచి తమను క్షమించాలని కోరుతూ గుండెల మీద చేతులతో బాదుకుంటూ గట్టిగా ఏడుస్తూ నిప్పులపై నడిచారు. అదే ఆచారం నేటికీ చాలా ప్రాంతాల్లో కొనసాగుతుంది.
మొహర్రం మాసంలో పీర్ల పంజా (ప్రతిమ)లను కూర్చోబెట్టిన వారు ఎర్రగా మండే నిప్పు కణికల్లో నడుచుకుంటూ వెళ్తారు. అదే విధంగా మహ్మద్ ప్రవక్త కుటుంబానికి చందిన వ్యక్తులు అమరులైన తమ పెద్దలను తలచుకుంటూ వారికి సంతాపంగా రెండ్రోజుల పాటు ఉపవాస దీక్షను పాటిస్తారు. అలాగే ఈ మాసంలో తమ ఇళ్లలో ఎలాంటి శుభకార్యాలు నిర్వహించరు.
