After the MoD objected to the cost, the navy downsized the proposal to a 50,000-tonne carrier costing about Rs 50,000 crore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/qphs.fs.quoracdn.net\/main-qimg-1266ac3a191a06bc74835ada64ce67c1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-9453835310745500\"\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<!-- wide skyscraper -->\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9453835310745500\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"9987820756\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">&gt; At an estimated $5 billion, the fully equipped INS Vishal may be most expensive piece of machinery in the arsenal of India, which wants to match the pace at which China is developing its aircraft carriers. The final cost will also depend on the hardware installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">&gt; In India\u2019s neighbourhood, Pakistan and Sri Lanka don\u2019t possess aircraft carriers. China, which already has the 40,000-tonne CNS Liaoning, is developing a 50,000-tonne aircraft carrier. It plans to develop two more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&gt; An aircraft carrier, complete with fighter squadrons called&nbsp;<strong>Carrier Battle Groups (CBG)<\/strong>, gives a navy strategic depth in the oceans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&gt; A CBG can control around&nbsp;<strong>200,000 square nautical miles<\/strong>&nbsp;and can moving more than 600 nautical miles a day. The distance between Chennai and Colombo by the sea is 401 nautical miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&gt; The INS Vishal will be the first non-Western aircraft carrier equipped with the complex&nbsp;<strong>CATOBAR&nbsp;<\/strong>launch capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-9453835310745500\"\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script>\n<!-- Ad1 -->\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\n     style=\"display:block\"\n     data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9453835310745500\"\n     data-ad-slot=\"8240817448\"\n     data-ad-format=\"auto\"\n     data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">&gt;&nbsp;<strong>CATOBAR<\/strong>&nbsp;aircraft launch systems put less strain on the airframe of planes during takeoff reducing maintenance cost in the long run and also allows carrier-based aircraft to carry a heavier weapons payload.
