Its first phase was completed in 2006 and the other two phases are still in their ongoing stages. The water from the reservoir is used in irrigation, municipal water supply and power generation of 1,000 MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify\">The dam also serves as a massive boost to the tourism industry in Uttrakhand with it being a popular destination for the locals and outsiders alike.
