భారత దేశపు వాయువ్య ప్రాంతంలో కల పంజాబ్ రాష్ట్రంలోని అతి పెద్ద నగరాలలో అమృత్సర్ నగరం ఒకటి. ఇది సిక్కు జాతీయులకు సాంస్కృతికంగా, మత పరంగా ప్రధాన కేంద్రం. అక్కడ కల అమృత్ సరోవర్ పేరుపై కల ఈ నగరం 16వ శతాబ్దంలో నాల్గవ సిక్కు గురువు గురురామ్ దాస్ జి చే కనుగొనబడినది. ఆయన గురువైన గురు అర్జన్ దేవ్ జి ఈ నగరాన్ని అభివృద్ధి చేసారు. గురు రామ్ దాస్ జి తలపెట్టిన గుడి నిర్మాణాన్ని 1601 లో పూర్తి చేసారు. 1947 లో ఇండియా విభాజించక ముందు అవిభజిత పంజాబ్ లో అమ్రిత్సర్ పట్టణానికి వ్యాపార పరంగా ఎంతో ప్రాధాన్యత వుండేది. విభజన తర్వాత అమ్రిత్సర్ ఇండియా – పాకిస్తాన్ లకు సరిహద్దు టవున్ గా ఏర్పడి పాకిస్తాన్ కు పశ్చిమ సరిహద్దు అయింది. ఇపుడు ఈ పట్టణ వ్యాపారాలు కార్పెట్ లు, దుస్తులు, హేండి క్రాఫ్ట్స్, వ్యవసాయ ఉత్పత్తులు, సేవా వ్యాపారాలు, లైట్ ఇంజనీరింగ్, కు మాత్రమే పరిత మయ్యాయి. అమ్రిత్సర్ లో పర్యటన ఈప్రాంతంలో ఒక వ్యాపారం అయ్యింది.
అమ్రిత్సర్ లోను మరియు చుట్టుపట్ల కల పర్యాటక ఆకర్షణలు అమ్రిత్సర్ లో అనేక గురుద్వారాలు కలవు. వాటిలో హర మందిర్ సాహిబ్ ప్రధానం. దీనిని సాధారణంగా గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్ అని అంటారు. పవిత్రమైన ఈ సిక్కుల నగరం ఏటా సుమారు ఒక లక్షకు పైగా సందర్శకులను ప్రపంచం నలుమూలల నుండి ఆకర్షిస్తుంది. గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్ కాంప్లెక్స్ లోనే ఖల్స, శ్రీ అకాల్ తఖ్త్ కలవు. అమ్రిత్సర్ టూరిజం అంటే బిబెక్సర్ సాహిబ్, బాబా అటల్ సాహిబ్, రామ్సార్ సాహిబ్ , సంతోఖ్సర్ సాహ్లిబ్ ల పర్యటన కూడాను.
గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్
గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్ ను శ్రీ హరమందిర్ సాహిబ్ అని కూడా అంటారు. సంవత్సరం పొడవునా లక్షలాది భక్తులు దీనిని సందర్శిస్తారు. అమ్రిత్సర్ లో కల ఈ ప్రదేశం 16 వ శతాబ్దంలో అయిదవ సిక్కు గురు గురు అర్జన్ దేవ్ జి నిర్మించారు. 19 వ శతాబ్దపు మొదటి భాగంలో మహారాజ రంజిత్ సింగ్ గురుద్వారా యొక్క పై అంతస్తులను 400 కే జి ల బంగారుతో పూత వేశారు కనుక దీనిని ఇంగ్లీష్ లో గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్ అంటారు.
రెండు అంతస్తులు కల మార్బుల్ నిర్మాణం గురుద్వారా చుట్టూ అమ్రిత్ సరోవర్ అనబడే కొలను వుంటుంది. పగటి పూట సిక్కుల పవిత్ర గ్రంధమైన ఆదిగ్రంథను ఈ పవిత్రప్రదేశంలో ఉంచుతారు. గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్ కు నాలుగు ద్వారాలు వుంటాయి. ఇవి మానవ సౌభ్రాతృత్వం మరియు సమానతలు చాటుతాయి. సిక్కులు పవిత్రంగా భావించే ఈ ప్రదేశం జాతీయ, అంతర్జాతీయ పర్యాటకులు తప్పక చూడదగినది.
శ్రీ ఆకల తఖ్త్
ఆకల తఖ్త్ అంటే అర్ధం… అంతులేని సింహాసనం అని. ఖాల్సా కు ఇది ఒక ఉన్నత పదవి. సిక్కుల ఆధ్యాత్మిక కార్యక్రమాలకు ఇది ఒక కేంద్ర బిందువు. ఆరవ సిక్కు గురువు గురు హరగోవింద్ జి చే నిర్మించబడిన ఈ తక్త్ అన్నిటికంటే పురాతనమైనది మరియు ఇండియా లో మిగిలిన అయిదు తఖ్త్ ల కంటే శక్తిమంత మైనది. అమ్రిత్సర్లోని హరమందిర్ సాహిబ్ కాంప్లెక్స్ లో కల ఈ శ్రీ ఆకల తఖ్త్ ప్రత్యేకించి సిక్కు పర్యాటకులకు తప్పక సిఫార్సు చేయ దగిన పర్యాటక ఆకర్షణ.
సిక్కు జాతి అధికారానికి ప్రతీక అయిన ఈ అయిదు అంతస్తుల భవనం లో చక్కని మార్బుల్ నిర్మాణాలు, బంగారు పూత డోమ్, సెమి సర్కులర్ ప్లాట్ ఫారం వంటివి కలవు. పగటి పూట గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్ లో వుంచబడే ఆది గ్రంధ రాత్రులలో శ్రీ ఆకల తఖ్త్ ఆవరణలోకి మార్చబడుతుంది. మీరు ఇక్కడ 1984 లో గోల్డెన్ టెంపుల్ పై జరిగిన దాడి లో సిక్కులు ఉపయోగించిన ఆయుధాలు కూడా చూడవచ్చు.
సిక్కులకు ప్రధాన యాత్రా స్థలం అవటమే కాక, అమ్రిత్సర్ ఇండియా స్వాతంత్ర పోరాటం లో 1919 జిలియన్ వాలా బాగ్ హత్యా కాండ తో కూడా చరిత్రలో చోటు చేసుకుంది. జిలియన్ వాలా బాగ్ లో ఇప్పటికి అక్కడ నిర్మించిన స్మారకాలలో మృత వీరుల దినోత్సవం చేస్తారు. బ్రిటిష్ పాలకులకు వ్యతిరేకంగా పోరాడిన మరి కొన్ని ప్రదేశాలు, మహారాజ రంజిత్ సింగ్ మ్యూజియం, ఖైర్ ఉద్ దిన్ మసీద్, బతిండ ఫోర్ట్, సరగార్హి మెమోరియల్ మరియు గోవింద్ ఘర్ కోట మొదలైనవి. ఇండియా – పాకిస్తాన్ ల మధ్య కల సైనిక ప్రదేశాన్ని వాగా సరిహద్దు అంటారు. ఇక్కడ జరిగే పెరేడ్ చూసేందుకు టూరిస్టులు వస్తారు.
వాగా సరిహద్దు
వాగా సరిహద్దు అనేది పాకిస్తాన్ కు ఇండియా కు మధ్య లాహోర్ , అమ్రిత్ సర్ నగరాల మధ్య కల ప్రదేశం. రెండు దేశాలకు మధ్య సరిహద్దు ఈ రోడ్డు గా వుంటుంది. అనేక భవనాలు, రోడ్లు, బారికేడ్ లు ఇరువైపులా వుంటాయి. అవుట్ పోస్ట్ కు గల ఎంట్రీ గేటు పేరు స్వర్ణ జయంతి గేటు కాగా ఇక్కడపచ్చటి ప్రదేశాలు అనేకం కలవు. వాగా బోర్డర్ లో ‘బీటింగ్ ది రిట్రీట్ ‘ అనే పెరేడ్ ప్రతి సాయంత్రం ఎంతో అట్టహాసంగా జరుగుతుంది. ఈ కార్యక్రమం ఇక్కడకు వచ్చే ప్రతి వారూ తప్పక చూడదగినది. సూర్యాస్తమయం అయ్యే సమయానికి కార్యక్రమం ముగుస్తుంది.
అంతేకాక, ఈ నగరంలో అనేక హిందూ దేవాలయాలు దుర్గియానా టెంపుల్, మందిర్ మాతా లాల్ దేవి, ఇస్కాన్ టెంపుల్ , హనుమాన్ మందిర్ మరియు శ్రీ రామ్ తీర్థ్ టెంపుల్ కలవు. కైజర్ బాగ్, రాం బాగ్, ఖల్స కాలేజ్ మరియు గురు నానక్ దేవ్ యూనివర్సిటీ, తార్న్ తారన్ మరియు పుల్ కన్జారి వంటివి మరికొన్ని పర్యాటక ఆకర్షణలు.
Food at Amritsar
- Lassi.
Where :- Gian Di Lassi, Amritsar.
When we think of Amritsar, we think of Golden Temple, kulchas and lassi. The lassi at Gian Di Lassi was the best. It was made from using the fresh curd, malai (cream) and white butter, topped with their special peda. The taste was really delicious and it was thick as well.
- Chhole Kulche.
Where :- Kulcha Land, Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar.
When in Amritsar, you simply cannot miss the Kulchas and that too of Kulcha Land. The taste of the Kulcha is quite good and the service at this place was top notch. The price per plate is Rs.40/-
- Langar ka Prasad.
Where :- Golden Temple, Amritsar.
Sikhs believe that no one should suffer from hunger. They opened a free 24/7 kitchen that serves anyone regardless of religion, gender or race. They all sit and share a meal together.
- Poori, Chhole and Aloo ki Sabji.
Where :- Kanha Sweets, Dayanand Nagar, Amritsar.
One of the best breakfast to have in the morning when you are in Amritsar. Pooris are fried in desi ghee.
- Makke Di Roti and Sarson Da Saag.

The legendary Makke Di Roti and Sarson Da Saag is cooked till infinity in huge amounts of ghee which makes the dish so delicious that you would lick the slightest amount left behind on the serving bowl. When you are in Amritsar, you simply cannot miss this out. It’s totally heaven.

It’s mandatory to visit Bharawan Da Dhaba. You simply cannot miss this out. The Amritsari Kulcha Thali with 2 Amritsari Kulcha, chhole and raita is at the front of you.
- Desi Ghee wale Amritsari Kulche.

The Kulcha at Pehalwan Kulcha Shop is made with Desi Ghee. The chhole was also spicy and tangy as compared to Bharawan Da Dhaba chhole.
- Paratha Thali.
Where :- Bharawan Da Dhaba, Town Hall, Amritsar.
Try Paratha Thali in dinner at Bharawan Da Dhaba. A tad less butter would have enhanced the taste. Nevertheless it is too delicious. Dal Makhani in the thali is the best.
- Plain Lassi.
Where :- Ahuja Milk Bhandar, Amritsar.
One of the best plain, sweet and thick lassi in Amritsar. Thick lassi topped only with malai of milk.
- Amritsari Special Thali.
Where :- Bharawan Da Dhaba, Town Hall, Amritsar.
A big thali with Dal Makhani, Rajma, Kadhai Paneer, Raita, Salad and Paratha made in Desi Ghee.
- Roasted Chicken.
Where :- Beera Chicken, Majitha Road, Amritsar.
The roasted chicken served with onion, lemon and green chutney blew away the mind. Chaat masala sprinkled on the roasted chicken. The overall texture was crisp juicy.
- Mutton Chaap.
Where :- Surjit Food Plaza, Lawrence Road, Amritsar.
One of the best mutton Chaap that I ever had. Minced meat ground with whole species and finely chopped onions with green chutney. Bound perfectly and swallow fried. Green chutney made with coriander leaves, mint, lime, chilli paste and salt. The meat was fried in desi ghee.
- Amritsari Fish.
Where :- Pehalwan Fish, Amritsar.
A half fillet of Singhara (a fatty river catfish). Scored to remove bones and fried whole, till the skin gets crisp. A very thin batter is an Amritsar speciality. With accompanying mint chutney and salad. A sprinkle of masala, some lime and a side of our specially baked fermented Amritsari Kulcha elevates to the next level. The price for 250 grams is Rs.200/- (depends on the variable rate of fish).
Pehalwan Fish is located just outside the Katra Sher Singh exit from Golden Temple.
- Amritsari Fish.

Plate if Amritsari Fish fry with Mayo Sauce and green chutney. This was so good in taste. Soft fresh water fish (Sole) better fried perfectly crispy paired along with mayo and a bit of mint and coriander chutney with the generous squeeze of lemon. Fish sprinkled with chaat masala.
Makhan Fish Corner is one of the oldest fish shop in Amritsar, since 1962.
- Amritsari Non-Vegetarian Thali.
Where :- Friends Dhaba, Amritsar.
A full plate served with tandoori roti, spicy chicken curry and egg curry, rice, raita. The thali is one of the tastiest non-vegetarian thali that I had in Amritsar.
- Lachha Paratha Thali.
Where :- Kesar Da Dhaba, Guru Bazar Road, Amritsar.
Every items in the thali i.e. Lachha Paratha, Dal Makhani and Paneer ki Sabji are prepared in the desi ghee. No one can match the deliciousness of this thali. Kesar Da Dhaba is more than 100 years old Dhaba in Amritsar.
- Ajwain Paratha Thali.

One of the best Ajwain Paratha Thali from Kesar Da Dhaba. Ajwain Paratha served with saag, desi ghee dal tadka, raita, chhole and salad. One of the must try thali.
- Phirni.

The legendary Kesar Da Dhaba Phirni prepared at the time of Eid festival, celebrated by Muslims.
- Keshariya Lassi.
Where :- Ahuja Milk Bhandar, Amritsar.
This is really the best lassi topped with malai and mixed with saffron, the most expensive spice in the world. A must try lassi when you visit Amritsar.
- Special Tawa Pulao.
Where :- Surjit Food Plaza, Lawrence Road, Amritsar.
Tawa Pulao made with butter and tadka on tawa, sprinkled with different masala species and gravy. It is served on a plate with coriander leaves, onions.
- Ghevar.
Where :- Ahuja Milk Bhandar, Amritsar.
A disc-shaped sweet cake made with maida (refined wheat flour) and soaked in sugar syrup. Silver leaves (chandi ka vark) placed on the top to make it look more attractive, pistachios spread from the above.
- Phirni.
Where :- Ahuja Milk Bhandar, Amritsar.
A pudding made from the boiling milk, sugar and rice served with dry fruits and nuts. It is usually consumed as a dessert after the heavy meal. Served with silver leaves (chandi ka vark) placed on the top to make it look more attractive.

అమ్రిత్సర్ లో మూడు ప్రధాన కాలాలు వుంటాయి. అవి వేసవి, వర్షాకాలం శీతాకాలం. సంవత్సరంలో అన్ని కాలాలు అనుకూలమే అయినప్పటికీ, అమ్రిత్సర్ పర్యటన అక్టోబర్ నుండి మార్చ్ చివరి వరకు మరింత అనుకూలంగా వుంటుంది.
