Removal of minimum score of 75 per cent marks in Class 12 board exams and 20 percentile

IITs have decided to drop the admission criterion in respect of minimum Class 12 marks this year.

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said: “For admissions to the IITs, apart from qualifying the JEE (Advanced), the eligibility was to secure either minimum score of 75 per cent marks in Class 12 board exams or rank among the top 20 percentile in their qualifying examinations.”

“Due to the partial cancellation of Class 12 exams by several boards, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for JEE (Advanced) 2020-qualified candidates this time,” the HRD Minister added.

The minister added that the qualified JEE Advanced candidates, who have passed the Class 12 examinations, will now be eligible for admissions to the IITs irrespective of the marks obtained.

JEE Main 2020 will be held between September 1 and 6 this year, while JEE Advanced (for admissions to IITs) will be conducted on September 27.
