  • The University is open for vehicles from outside and also students can use motor vehicles(cars also), officially from 3rd year.
  • The University is visited by many tourists – both Indian and foreign.
  • Pioneer in the introduction of the innovative induction program for the new-entrants which is designed to rehabilitate the students from the JEE preparation syndrome.
  • Only IIT with Satvik Mess – Pure Vegetarian mess without Onion and Garlic.
  • Probably the only IIT with a council dedicated to social service.
  • Only IIT to have has Varanasi – unique city with its amazing Ghats and Temples. ;D
  • Most students opt the 7 old IITs above IIT-BHU. But IIT-BHU has better curriculum than other IITs in some of the courses, and also has a better average package.

  • Average package of about 13 lpa – strong Alumni base being one of the factors.
  • A very competitive and healthy coding culture.

  • Most of the hostels are decades old and are congested. Which are regreted by some, coped with by most, and praised by those who feel like “living in monuments”.
  • Infrastructure is yet to reach expectations of students.

Founded in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College(BENCO) as a part of the prestigious Banaras Hindu University(BHU) which was established in 1916 by the enormous efforts of Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya.

It became the Institute of Technology (IT-BHU) in 1968 merging BENCO, MINMET(College of Mining and Metallurgy) and TECHNO(College of Technology).

After the first proposal in 1972, it was finally designated as Indian Institute of Technology(BHU) Varanasi in 2012.

It is situated in the main city of Varanasi – which is claimed to be the oldest continuous living city. In the junction of Uttar Pradesh – Bihar.

And this Varanasi is notorious (and famous) for its narrow galis, dusty roads and congested areas.

It is famous for its Ghats and their Post Sunset and Sunrise Aartis. It is also famous for its economic and traditional road-side eateries.

And it also has some Malls, but they don’t have cinemas like INOX, PVR and Cinepolis.
