Recruitment through the UPSC

The UPSC holds an all-India competitive examination, known as the Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE), twice a year. University graduates are eligible to appear in the examination. Successful candidates join the respective training academies, viz., the Indian Military Academy (IMA) for the Army, the Naval Academy for the Navy and the Air Force Academy for the Air Force.

Indian Army:
Entry options to Indian Army after graduation in engineering are as follows
  • Technical Graduate Course (Engineers)
  • Short Service Commission Non Technical Men
  • Short Service Commission Non Tech Women
  • Short Service Commission Technical Men
  • Short Service Commission Tech Women
  • University Entry Scheme: Final and Pre Final year students of Engineering Degree Course are eligible

Indian Air forceAs an Engineer, you can soar into a rewarding and challenging career in the Indian Air Force. You have the option to apply for all branches of the IAF.

Flying BranchYou are trained as a Fighter pilot or a Helicopter pilot or a Transport pilot and are part of various peace and wartime missions. The various modes of entry into the Flying Branch are:

The following are the three modes of entry for Graduates/ Engineers to join the Flying branch:

  • CDSE (Combined Defence Services Examination) (for men only)
  • NCC special entry (for men only)
  • SSC (Short Service Commission ) Entry( For Men And Women)

Technical Branch

  • Aeronautical Engineering Branch: You would be incharge of some of the most sophisticated equipment in the world by joining one of the sub branches based on your qualification. Entry into this branch is via 2 options –
  • University Entry Scheme(UES) – For men only studying in Pre-Final year of B-tech/BE degree course
  • Aeronautical Engineering Course – For both Men and Women.
    Educational Qualification for Aeronautical Engineering Branch – Depending upon your stream of Engineering and subjects studied, you could join one of the sub branches of the Technical branch – Aeronautical Engineering (Electronics) or Aeronautical Engineering (Mechanical)
  • Ground duty Branch: One can join in either Administration Branch as Air Traffic Controller or Fighter Controller or Logistics Branch
Indian Navy:
There are various types of entries available

Executive Branch:
Graduate Special Entry Scheme (GSES), Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala (Through UPSC), NCC Special Entry Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, PC Naval Armament Inspection Centre, PC Logistics cadre, SSC Executive General Service, SSC Hydroraphy, SSC Logistics Cadre, SSC Pilot, SSC Observer, SSC Naval Armament, Inspection cadre and SSC Information Technology

Engineering Branch:
University Entry Scheme (SSC), Short Service Commission (GS), Short Service Commission (Submarine-Engineering), Short Service Commission Entry, University Entry Scheme (SSC) and Special Naval Architect Entry Scheme (SNAES)
