Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore is a world-reputed institution which has been offering research programmes in science and engineering. Besides these programmes, it is also offering four-and-half-year Bachelor of Science (BS) programme. The programme consists of three years classroom learning and one-and-half-year research.

Both MPC and BiPC students are eligible for these BS programmes. The course is divided into 8 semesters and Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Materials, Mathematics and Physics are the major subjects. Students can select one of the six subjects as major and another subject as minor in 4th semester. After the course, students can find employment opportunities in research departments and industry. Those who would like to pursue higher education can join in MS, M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research

To encourage basic science research, the Central government has established the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER). It has campuses in Pune, Bhopal, Mohali, Kolkata and Tiruvanantapuam.

The five-year Integrated BS-MS duel degree programmes is being offered by the IISER and the number of available seats is 150. In 4th semester, students have to choose their specilisations from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

Eligibility: The eligibility is rank in Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana or JEE (Advanced). Student must have secured minimum of 60% marks in Intermediate. Those who would like to apply only on Intermediate eligibility shall get through the common aptitude test conducted by the institute.
All India Institute of Medical SciencesAll India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, offer several courses for BiPC students. They are:

B.Sc. (Honours) in NursingEligibility: Intermediate pass with BiPC group and minimum of 55% marks. And this course is open only for girl students.

Duration: 4 years.
  • B.Sc. (Honours) in Ophthalmic Techniques
  • B.Sc. (Honours) in Medical Technology in Radiography
Eligibility: Intermediate pass with BiPC/ MPC groups and minimum of 50% marks and should have 17 years old by last December 31.

Selection Procedure: Students would be selected for these courses based on their performance in the entrance exam conducted by the institute.

The B.Sc. (Hounours) Nursing entrance exam consists of 100 marks; 30 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Biology subject and 10 questions from General Knowledge would be asked. This is a two-hour test.

The B.Sc. (Hounours) Paramedical courses entrance test consists of questions from Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics subjects. First two subjects are compulsory for all and candidates shall opt for one subject from the remaining two based on their interest.

Notification for this entrance exam would be issued in January/February months and exam would be conducted in the month of May.

NISER BhubaneswarThe National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) is an initiative of Department of Atomic Energy, is offering Integrated M.Sc. course for MPC and BiPC students. The five-year course which emphasizes on inter-disciplinary approach is aimed at making students to get a generalist knowledge in basic sciences.

At NISER, students shall select their preferred optional subjects at the beginning of the course. However, in first two semester students would be taught common subjects. Teaching of the preferred optional subjects would start from third semester onwards. In the final year, all the students shall do a project under the guidance of a faculty.

Admission into this course would be made based on the student’s performance in the National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) conducted by the institute. After release of the NEST results, counselling would be conducted either in July or August.

For admissions into these programmes, VIT conducts VIT Engineering Entrance Examination every year. MPC students are also eligible for these programmes. The exam is conducted online and questions are of multiple choice form. The exam tests student’s knowledge in physics, chemistry, mathematics or biology subjects. Physics and chemistry are compulsory for the students of both groups. BiPC students shall opt only biology for their entrance exam.
The exam notification will be released in January/February months and the online entrance exam would be conducted on online in multiple slots throughout April month.
